The West Fork Gators freshman Green football team continued its great start to the 2026 season Thursday night, hosting the Porter Spartans at Gator Field and earning a hard-fought 21-14 victory.
The Gators were led by a steady offensive performance and a strong defensive effort that helped West Fork maintain control throughout the game. Rashard Witherspoon found the end zone on a rushing touchdown, while Carzell Kelley added two rushing touchdowns to account for all three of the Gators' scores.
West Fork's defense provided several key plays that helped set the tone for the victory. Nicholas Dressen started the momentum early by recovering a fumble in Porter's backfield, giving the Gators an important opportunity and setting the stage for a strong defensive performance.
The Gators continued to make plays on defense as Jonathan Martinez came up with an interception in Porter's territory, creating another key opportunity for West Fork and helping the Gators keep pressure on the Spartans.
With the game hanging in the balance late in the fourth quarter, the Gators' defense came through once again. Jacoby Sherman sealed the victory in the final minute with a sack on fourth down, ending Porter's final opportunity and allowing West Fork to close out the 21-14 win.
The strong defensive effort, combined with a consistent rushing attack, gave the Gators another complete team performance at Gator Field. West Fork's ability to make critical plays in key moments proved to be the difference in a competitive district matchup.
The 21-14 victory improves West Fork to a record of 4-0 overall and 2-0 in district play. The Gators will now look to carry that momentum into another important district matchup next week.
West Fork will travel to Huntsville next Thursday, October 8th, to take on the Hornets at Huntsville Hornet Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. Pack the stands and be loud as the Gators take on another big district challenge!
