The West Fork Gators JV football team battled the Porter Spartans Thursday evening at Porter High School and came away with a hard-fought 20-14 victory. The Gators came out with strong offensive execution early, setting the tone for what would become a back-and-forth contest.
Quarterback Bryce Nichols sparked the Gator offense on the second drive of the game, connecting with Alonzo Williams for a touchdown to give West Fork an early lead. The Gators added to their advantage later in the third quarter when they executed a trick play, with Slade Gonzalez finding Williams for his second touchdown reception of the game. West Fork held a 12-0 lead after missing the initial extra-point attempt and the two-point conversion following the second score.
Porter responded with 14 unanswered points, taking a 14-12 lead heading into the fourth quarter. The Gators answered with a powerful rushing attack led by Caleb Harris, who delivered several explosive runs throughout the game, including the go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter. West Fork followed the score with a successful two-point conversion, as Nichols connected with Gonzalez to put the Gators back in front, 20-14.
With the game on the line, the Gator defense stepped up and delivered the stops needed to secure the victory. Raymond Thompson and Jamarien Bryant led the way in the secondary, while Treden Sembera and Mason Quintanilla anchored a physical Gator front seven. West Fork's defense made key plays across the field to keep the Spartans off the scoreboard in the final moments and preserve the 20-14 win. The Gators will return home next Thursday at 5:00 p.m. when they take on the Huntsville Hornets at Gator Field.
