The West Fork Gators Silver football team battled until the final whistle Thursday night against the Shepherd Pirates, but a late finish left the Gators on the wrong side of a close contest, falling 20-14.
In a game that came down to the final moments, West Fork showed resilience and determination, continuing to fight through four quarters of hard-nosed football.
Leading the offensive highlights for West Fork was Jacob Lara, who delivered one of the biggest plays of the night. Lara came up with a clutch touchdown reception in the fourth quarter to give the Gators the lead. His go-ahead score provided a huge momentum swing and showed the playmaking ability of the West Fork offense when the pressure was at its highest.
On the defensive side, Jaylen Rickards turned in a standout performance at linebacker. Rickards was flying to the football throughout the game, showing relentless effort and a willingness to make plays wherever he was needed. One of his biggest contributions came when he forced a fumble, creating a key opportunity for the Gators' defense. His physical style of play and nonstop motor helped set the tone for West Fork.
The Gators will look to put this loss behind them and come out on top next week.
