Gators improve to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in district play
The West Fork Gators returned to Randall Reed Stadium on Friday night and celebrated Homecoming with a 31-12 victory over the Splendora Wildcats.
West Fork put together a balanced performance on both sides of the ball, building an early lead and maintaining control throughout the second half. The victory moves the Gators to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in district play.
GATORS ESTABLISH EARLY LEAD
West Fork opened the scoring in the first quarter when quarterback Tyler Gilliam found the end zone on a 1-yard rushing touchdown. Trevor Wilson added the extra point to give the Gators a 7-0 lead.
Splendora answered with a touchdown early in the second quarter, but a missed extra point kept West Fork ahead 7-6.
The Gators responded with a big kickoff return from Kaden Ferguson that helped set up a 30-yard touchdown pass from Noah Henry to Emiliano Hinostroza. After Splendora scored again on a two-point conversion attempt that was unsuccessful, West Fork added another touchdown on a reception by Ronald Stagger to take a 21-12 lead into halftime.
WEST FORK EXTENDS LEAD IN SECOND HALF
A key moment came early in the third quarter when a bad snap gave West Fork possession near the Splendora 6-yard line. The Gators capitalized on the opportunity with a 24-yard field goal from Trevor Wilson.
Gilliam added his second rushing touchdown of the night on a 5-yard run, extending West Fork’s advantage to 31-12.
The Gators’ defense closed out the game by keeping Splendora off the scoreboard in the second half, including two fourth-quarter takeaways.
GATORS DELIVER ON BOTH SIDES OF THE BALL
Gilliam led the offense, completing 11 of 14 passes for 97 yards and a touchdown, while adding 31 rushing yards and two scores on the ground. Henry completed his only pass for a touchdown, and Kaden Simmons led the rushing attack with 48 yards on 13 carries.
In the receiving game, Ronald Stagger finished with four receptions for 44 yards and a touchdown. Marshaun Warmley added three catches for 37 yards, while Hinostroza recorded two receptions for 31 yards and a touchdown.
