“I feel really happy to know that I am the first state champion at West Fork,” Neveah said. “Starting off [as a state champion] is really cool, and it's cool to see how far I’ve progressed.”
Neveah began her powerlifting career just last year as a freshman and quickly worked her way up to becoming a top competitor, but the journey to state was not easy. In November 2023, Neveah was diagnosed with knee condition and underwent surgery in early 2024. She began her healing process in the spring of 2024, working daily with the WFHS Sports Medicine team to build up her mobility and strength.
“Working with Sports Medicine and my outside physical therapist really helped me progress and get back into lifting,” she said. “During the summer I started out squatting at 65 pounds, then I built all the way back up for state at 335 pounds.”
Neveah’s progress required relentless effort. Neveah and her teammates arrive at school for 6 a.m. workouts to train for powerlifting meets, pushing themselves to improve every day. This intense training ultimately prepares them to compete—and win—at the highest level.
