The West Fork High School girls powerlifting team capped off a historic season with a strong showing at the THSWPA State Championships, finishing 14th overall out of 51 teams in one of the most competitive meets in Texas.
Leading the way was senior standout Ximena Mejia, who earned a 3rd-place finish in her weight class. Mejia put together an impressive performance with lifts of 430 pounds in the squat, 230 pounds on bench press, and 355 pounds in the deadlift. She came within inches of a state title, narrowly missing her final 400 lb deadlift attempt that would have secured the championship.
Ana Sofia Abshire delivered another outstanding performance, placing 4th overall with lifts of 300 (squat), 200 (bench), and 340 (deadlift). Claudia Garcia also earned a 4th-place finish, totaling 350 in the squat, 170 on bench, and 340 in the deadlift to cap off an impressive day on the platform.
West Fork showcased its depth as multiple athletes finished among the top competitors in the state. Claudia Enciso-Ortiz, Jordan Carvajal, and Nevaeh Moszkowicz each secured 6th-place finishes in their respective weight classes. Cristina Garcia added to the team’s success with an 8th-place finish, while Cesia Hernandez rounded out the scoring with a 10th-place performance.
Competing against the best lifters in Texas, the West Fork girls demonstrated resilience, strength, and determination throughout the meet. With multiple top finishes and a strong team placement, the program continues to establish itself as one of the rising forces in Texas high school powerlifting.
