The West Fork boys powerlifting program reached a historic milestone this season as sophomore Jason Salas became the first male lifter in program history to qualify for the Texas High School Powerlifting State Meet.
Salas earned his spot at the regional meet after an impressive performance in the 275-pound weight class, posting a 620-pound squat, 405-pound bench press, and 450-pound deadlift. His performance secured him a state qualification and marked a major breakthrough for the young West Fork boys program. The boys program has been steadily building momentum. West Fork previously had two regional qualifiers in 2024 who were forced to scratch due to injuries, and last season the team narrowly missed sending an athlete to regionals.
This year’s regional meet featured six West Fork regional qualifiers:
Houston Phuong, Luke Larsen, Ken Hoang, Nathan Aaron, Kayden Victorick, and Jason Salas.
With a strong returning core of lifters and continued growth in the program, West Fork believes this year’s milestone is just the beginning as the group coming back the next two years expects to be competing at the state level consistently on both the boys and girls side.
For now, the focus shifts to the state meet, where Salas will represent the West Fork Gators and continue building the legacy of a rapidly rising powerlifting program.
